If possible go by train/bus. If not, flights with layovers will save you money. You will increase transit duration though. Try to travel on weekdays instead of weekends. And lastly, be flexible with dates. If you can travel a week earlier instead of 2 days before Diwali, and return a week after Diwali, the difference is significant.

One thing I’ve learned is to book as early as possible or try alternate routes/airports for better fares. Also, since last-minute changes or cancellations can happen during peak season, having travel insurance can give some peace of mind, you won’t lose everything if plans shift unexpectedly.

In these times, you will have to be bit flexible with dates to save some money. Ask for one day extra leave at work. Or tell them you will do wfh on 17th if you have that option :)

So say you travelled 100 km for inr 6000 with two flights of 50km each .

You will get 3000inr refund+ 3000 inr compensation.

From your situation I infer that you should still get 2k inr as compensation atleast.

You should have called the Airline directly and requested them to change the flight. They could have done it by charging only the Fare difference.

I faced the same 1 month back and they changed it by charging a fare difference of only ₹300.

Don't airlines use the 24 hr format to prevent this confusion?
